When we remove your braces, we will begin the very important retention stage of your treatment. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to follow Dr. Grahams instructions and wear your retainers the number of hours prescribed consistantly every day. Failure to wear your retainers as prescribed will result in the relapse of your teeth(your teeth moving back to their original positions).
The upper retainer is the removable clear invisitain. You must be very careful when handling your upper retainers, as they are fragile. You are given a special case for your retainer; please make sure you keep them in this case when not wearing it! To clean these retainers, brush them daily with toothbrush and toothpaste using cool water. Sometimes the periodic use of denture cleaner or clear mouthwash is useful.
Initially your retainers should be worn 12 hours each day. Your retainer should be removed when eating, drinking(except water), participating in sports that require a mouthguard or while swimming. Never place in hot water, this will cause distortion. Never wrap your retainer in a napkin and keep it out of reach of pets!
Remember to bring your retainers to all retention appointments. Also, if lost or broken, please call us immediately!
